Scenography Museum Plantin Moretus, ULTIMA 2017 Award

— 2016, Antwerp, Belgium
IMG 9096

Within the World Heritage Site of the Printing House of Plantin and Moretus, the story is told about Plantin and the world of printing, together with the collection of books who have been so important for the knowledge expansion on a world scale. These stories form a rich stratification, in which different scales are placed into dialogue: the intimate scale of the book and the vastness of the world; the knowledge landscape but also the surrounding urbanity.. The scenography is about bringing back the relief and depth within the museum with the experience of the space and the narrative of the house.

1. Six meetings with Plantin were brought to life, shaped in a sensitive way, as bearers of a story. The salons, the workshops and the print shop come to life with the sound of the printing presses, a young daughter of Plantin reading aloud, the activity in the back shop and the correctors' room.

2. The scenography aimed at allowing The Golden Passer, the 16th-17th century house with Plantin and Moretus's printing house, to be experienced in all its glory and intimacy from a poetic and tangible approach. It is about bringing relief back into the layers of the museum.
